As Alfie is getting older, it’s inevitable that he was going to become bigger and heavier, which makes day to day life harder for mam as she is very tiny. A year ago mam had to moved because the house and access to the house weren’t suitable for Alfies growing needs, causing risks and dangers to both mam and Alfie, she had many accidents like falling down the stairs while carrying Alfie( he is almost as big as mam now) leading to back problems but between them both they’ve had to just struggle along. The house they moved into had to then have a lot of building work carried out over the past 7 months so that Alfie could have his own ground floor bedroom and wet room to either make it safer for Alfie and mam and to manage his needs or to support him to become independent.
The rooms are now done, to name a few reasons to why it’ll help Alfie are;
Access to full down stairs to help him gain confidence in getting around- which is good for his muscles.
There’s no risks to mam or Alfie.
Enables Alfie to attempt to learn to become independent in daily tasks
Gives Alfie an enormous amount of opportunities to access a toilet to try and toilet train him, for him to actually have a go at learning to brush his teeth and allows him to try and bathe himself over time with as little support as possible.
Giving Alfie the chance to be able to use his arms and legs more is all fab Physio on him as well as helping to support him in becoming independent, it gives him life skills that he’s never had such as learning to brush his teeth( he told mam, she makes brushing teeth look so easy) as mam has been spending each morning and night teaching him how to move his arms to brush his teeth.
We would like to share a few pictures with you ☺
